Pidgin “now playing” — updating status messages to song being played

Plugins for Pidgin (the IM client formerly known as Gaim) that update the status message to show the currently playing track, somehow getting it from your music player.

1. musictracker – http://code.google.com/p/musictracker/
MusicTracker is a plugin for Pidgin (previously known as Gaim) which displays the music track currently playing in the status message of various accounts such as AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk (Jabber), etc., i.e. any protocol Pidgin supports custom statuses on. Support for a wide range of audio players on both Windows and Linux platforms is planned. Currently supported players: Amarok, Rhythmbox, Audacious, XMMS, MPC/MPD, Exaile, Banshee, Quod Libet on Linux. Winamp, Windows Media Player (9+), iTunes, Foobar2000 (incomplete support) on Windows.

2. Pidgin-currenttrack – http://sourceforge.net/projects/currenttrack/
Current Track plugin will update your Gaim/Pidgin user info, available message or away message, and buddy icon from iTunes, Winamp, RealPlayer, WMP, Musicmatch, MediaMonkey, XMPlay, Yahoo! & Foobar2000 in Windows and XMMS, Rhythmbox, & Amarok in Linux.

3. Autoprofile – http://hkn.berkeley.edu/~casey/autoprofile/
AutoProfile is an extension to Gaim that allows users to create customized away messages and profiles using dynamic “components” that automatically update on a regular basis. Generated text can include song names from XMMS/Winamp/iTunes, fortune quotes, computer uptime, the contents of a Web page or a text file, the output of a program, and timestamps.

HOWTO Use NTFS on Fedora

1. Install ntfs-3g through yum
[root@localhost nordin]# yum install -y ntfs-3g

2. Check for available NTFS partition on your HDD
[root@localhost nordin]# /sbin/fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160000000000 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19452 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 4 32098+ de Dell Utility
/dev/sda2 * 5 7373 59191492+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 7374 19452 97024567+ f W95 Ext’d (LBA)
/dev/sda5 7374 15583 65946793+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda6 15584 15596 104391 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 15597 19452 30973288+ 8e Linux LVM

Disk /dev/dm-0: 29.5 GB, 29595009024 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 3598 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Disk /dev/dm-1: 2080 MB, 2080374784 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 252 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

3. So there are two NTFS partition available which is /dev/sda2 & /dev/sda5. We are going to work on both of them.

4. Create mount point for each drive. I’ve created c_drive & d_drive in /media/
[root@localhost nordin]# mkdir /media/c_drive/
[root@localhost nordin]# mkdir /media/d_drive/

5. Now mount both NTFS partition onto the mount point using ntfs-3g
[root@localhost nordin]# ntfs-3g /dev/sda2 /media/c_drive/ -o force
[root@localhost nordin]# ntfs-3g /dev/sda5 /media/d_drive/ -o force

6. Done. Now you can browse through both folder using /media/c_drive & /media/d_drive

Migrated to Fedora 7 :p

skrinshot_myfedora7.jpg

At last i’ve migrated to Fedora..Both my pc at the office and laptop at home are using Fedora 7. But i still have to keep my windows and let them have dual boot so that i can use Microsoft Visio & play Dota which still depends on Windows to operate. Although we have Dia Editor as replacement for Visio but i found that it’s taking longer steps to complete a diagram than using Visio :p But, i have no problem browsing the net, doing PHP development, servers configuration, printing documents, emails, YM, Skype, xChat, watching animes & tv series, listening to mp3s, etc. And also i can even still use the NTFS partition which i use for Windows using ntfs-3g 😉 Hoooreyyyy
